K E Y P O I N T S
• There are two basic varieties of streak retinoscopes available—
those based on Copeland’s design and all the rest.
• A special filament in the bulb of the streak retinoscope creates
the linear beam of light.
• For best results, the patient’s fixating eye should be fogged to
further prevent accommodation.
• The reflex will move in the same direction as the intercept (with-movement)
or in the opposite direction (against-movement).
• Plus-powered lenses neutralize with-movement. Minus-powered
lenses neutralize against-movement.
• The speed and brightness of the reflex increases as neutralization
is approached.
